America's Cup Diary - 2009

This was the year that we finally got to see Alinghi's multihulled answer to BMW Oracle Racing's DoGZilla trimaran launched the summer before. While the American team continued to train in San Diego, the Swiss helicoptered their new catamaran initially onto Lake Geneva, before helicoptering it across the Alps to the Italian port of Genoa. They then spent late 2009 training at the America's Cup destination of Ras al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates, although by the end of the year the venue had reverted back to Valencia.

These Diary articles originally appeared in Boat International magazine.
